"Volunteers are the only human beings on the face of the earth who reflect this nation’s compassion, unselfish caring, patience, and just plain loving one another.”

Spoken by many Indian philosophers and writers for centuries, one of the most ancient quotes about volunteering offers proof that giving back to the community is hardly a new concept. With so many of our people less fortunate than those of us who can afford to travel, live, work and maintain a vibrant social and cultural engagement in our adopted country, volunteering is becoming increasingly important to ensure these basic rights and necessities are accessible to all members of our community in a fair and equitable manner.

The term ‘volunteering’ covers a wide diversity of activities in our society. The definition of volunteering for IAASA is someone who can give of their time, skills, services or experience

WHO

We welcome volunteers across all age groups, ethnicities, gender, religion and socio economic backgrounds as well as from non- Indian communities.

IAASA will verify the background, qualifications, skills and experience of individuals prior to their appointment to a volunteer position. Screening is an important part of an our risk management strategy. It complements, but by no means reduces, the need for good practice in the recruitment, selection, training, supervision and support of our volunteers. Effective screening is especially important for us as there is involvement with children, elders and other vulnerable groups.

Screening may involve reference checks, police clearance, driving record, or other checks as deemed necessary for the particular role within state and federal legal requirements.
Recruited volunteers must also agree to undertake Orientation which includes introduction to the cause, mission, core business and programs as well as meeting other volunteers, board and committee members of IAASA, understanding of rights, roles and responsibilities.
